NSW: State's Christmas road toll climbs to 11

New South Wales's holiday road toll has risen to 11, with the death of an elderly woman
near Coffs Harbour on the state's mid-north coast.

The woman was killed when the car in which she was travelling collided with a station
wagon on the Pacific Highway at Pine Creek, south of Coffs Harbour, at 7.15am (AEDT).

The driver and another passenger in the car suffered serious injuries, while the station
wagon driver and passenger were treated for minor injuries.

It was the second death on New South Wales roads within 24 hours.

Last night, a 26-year-old woman was killed when her car hit a tree after veering off
the Federal Highway near Collector, north of Canberra.

A police spokeswoman says driver fatigue may have contributed to the crash.

Four people died on the state's roads on Christmas Eve, including an 18-month old girl
at Kempsey in northern New South Wales.

The toddler died of head injuries after falling under a four-wheel drive being steered
by her mother while other people attempted to push-start it.
