Marshall coach Luther Bedford has been in the business too longto get worried over a little losing streak.

"Our kids were nervous, but those things happen when you havesuch a young team," said Bedford, who starts two sophomores, twojuniors and a senior. "We didn't have any games last week and wejust worked hard in practice. We figured if we worked hard, we'dget one and today we did."

Bridlington man helps Cumbria flood victims.

Ian Waines, 45, travelled to the stricken Cumbrian town as part of the International Rescue Corps, a voluntary non-Government-funded disaster rescue service.

Ian, who has been a member of the IRC for 10 years, was contacted by police last Thursday to travel to Cockermouth to go on stand-by, as heavy floods were expected.

Flood waters had already started to rise on Thursday after heavy rain saw water levels eventually reach eight feet in the town centre.

Mr Waines said: "By the time we got there the floods had already really took hold; that was around tea-time on Thursday.

THEY ARE FAMILY THE NEVILLE BROTHERS HAVE STUCK TOGETHER THROUGH SOME HARD TIMES AND HARDER LIVING.(PREVIEW)

Byline: DAVID HINCKLEY Knight Ridder

Ask music fans about the Neville Brothers -- who headline the Fabulous Fourth Festivities at the Empire State Plaza in Albany on Wednesday night -- and their eyes start to twinkle, because the family represents something rock-solid at the heart of American music.

For one thing, just like Smokey Robinson means Detroit and Dion represents the streets of the Bronx, the Nevilles stand for New Orleans, a city with a rich, multi-ethnic music mixture.

So a book by the Neville Brothers sounds like it would have stories about down-home Louisiana session dates and road gigs, maybe spiced up with a few stories about weaselly promoters along the trail.

Well, ``The Brothers Neville'' …

Profitability: Two Banks Beef Up Operations With S1: Charter One and Valley National sought to improve call handling, cut paperwork and reduce training of customer-service reps.

While evidence mounts that banks are starting to loosen the purse strings a bit when it comes to technology investments, expectations for what that investment will yield are still high. To secure buy-in from top brass, those arguing for a major outlay are often expected to deliver on three broad fronts: lower costs, increased revenue and improved customer experience. No easy task to be sure, even if the money is a bit easier to get.

But one bank that seems to have wrung a lot of these benefits out of its technology investment is Charter One, which has used an array of S1 data management tools and other technology: S1 Teller, S1 Sales & Service and S1 Call Center.

Its improved operations are soon to be enjoyed by Royal Bank of Scotland, which in May announced its intention to …

Judge: Disbarred D.A. Must Leave Now

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University has reached an undisclosed financial settlement with three former lacrosse players falsely accused of rape, while a judge said late Monday he would order the disbarred prosecutor to leave office immediately.

Duke had suspended Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and Dave Evans after they were charged last year with raping a stripper at an off-campus party. The university also canceled the team's season and forced their coach to resign.

"We welcomed their exoneration and deeply regret the difficult year they and their families have had to endure," the school said Monday in a statement. "These young men and their families have been the subject of …

Playing politics over golf proposals

I Do not consider it necessary to hold any further inquiry intothe proposed Trump project.

What is now happening is gutter politics by Nicol Stephen, in thehope of putting himself forward as the champion of democracy, nevermind what the voters in his own constituency and the whole ofGrampian have already said on the subject.

I hope that the voters will remember the fiasco. when they go tothe ballot box.

- Bill Hatty
