FRIDAY, MARCH 25: DANICA PATRICK

Profile America - Friday, March 25th, noting Women's History Month. Danica Patrick is 29 years old today. The premier woman race car driver in the U.S. was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, and started racing go-karts at the age of 10. In 2005, she qualified for fourth place on the starting grid for the Indianapolis 500 and finished fourth. During the race, she became the first woman driver ever to lead the 500. In 2009, she finished third in the famous race, the highest finish ever by a woman driver. Recently, she has been driving a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Nationwide series. Each year in the U.S., nearly 19 million fans attend NASCAR races, and another 16.5 million go to other forms of auto racing. Profile America is in its 14th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.
